How I learnt driving?

"What drives you is most important than what you drive' Grake Valentine.

How many of you here know driving ? (Raise your hands)

As a kid I was obsessed with toy cars and would play with them around my house. I would like to admit from the bottom of my heart that I was more obssessed with trucks but my brother was so brilliant in repairing them that I would never see them in the same form next day. It was difficult to recognise them. Also I did not like any toys which had a human head attached to it like a scooter or train. Hence, toy cars became a natural choice.

Fast forward 14 yeas in 2002, Call it my destiny or my fathers foresight, my father enrolled me to a driving school. I had to learn driving to become a license holder. I started learning with great enthusiasm and speed. My best experience in driving happened at 50 KM Per hour when my instructor used to be alert and apply the break, Days flew by and the day had come for testing my driving skills. I went to a near by temple early in the morning and went to the testing ground to face the "H" test we call it in Kerala. I was supposed to drive the vehicle in 'H" format. Initial entry was fine but when I took reverse the "H" started looking like a "vertical T'. The RTO was kind enough and I got my license in 15 days.

I moved to  bangalore after a few years and the need of the hour was to learn driving well as my brother owned a car.  i joined a driving school and started learning again. My driver was a kannada speaking local guy who was very nice and helpful, the only problem was he would mix English and Kannada together at times. He would always take me on side roads which were filled with Cows and I thought it was his way of teaching me how life could treat you on a busy road with unruly traffic. i was able to overcome that situation as well. I was nearing the completion of my driving classes, one day while driving my instructor said in Kannada "aaraam Maadi" meaning relax as a natural response I stopped applying the accelerator and started to stretch and relax a bit. After 5 seconds he repeated the same word and started driving dead slowly and relaxed again. This time he thundered "Horn Maadi" meaning "Honk".  and within couple of days from then I had completed my driving. Even though I learnt driving with him. I still had fear and doubts in my mind. My brother new that i was not totally confident in driving and did not allow me to drive his car. Hence, I built a coalition with my mother and took her help to convince my brother while driving down to Goa. My brother was driving the car from Bangalore initially ..and after some convincing from my mom , I found my self on the driver seat. I kept the confidence and faith reposed by my mom and was driving for the past 15 minutes at 70 KM Per hour. All of a sudden a truck came by covered the whole road and I did not know where to drive. i felt that I wish i could fly my car. But that was not an option. I immediately turned the card aside from the road without crash landing. This experience has totally changed my life. Many of you might find this to be an adventure but for me it was about facing my fears head on as I was sure I could drive well. This experience has totally changed my life and am a proud owner of a car today. Dear friends, I suggest all of you to face your fears head on when you feel there is a barrier stopping and you will realise sooner or later you have driven past your fears. If I can overcome my fears you too can. Thats why friends
